Hot-ness! I don’t know if you’d call it humid, warm or plain hot. But all I know is I feel my sweat glans leaking and I’m getting all sticky. Even at night. π
What in the world is happening?! Global warming b*tch slapping all of us. Or, is it just the normal Malaysian weather at this time of the year. Because as far as I recall, Chinese New Year is normally the season when the heat is really unbearable.
Okay. This may not be as bad as summer in Australia and probably Japan. But I still hate the feeling of stickiness. Especially even after a cool bath, while wiping down I feel like I’m sweating again.
Argh! Where’s the rain when you need it?!
*runs around the room like a headless chicken bumping into things*
Hmm, maybe if I stared at this picture long enough I’ll feel cooler.
Last night was a concert by Zee Avi. And I know, I know, you may be asking; who is she? Well, trust me. My Dad could give the most random of answers when I told him I was going for her concert.
Zee Ar Vee? (CRV)
He was joking. But I do know, he’d definitely enjoy her music because he likes the blues and jazz too. I went to watch the concert with Ariel and we were a bit kiasu. Reached the KL Life Centre by 6pm. And already, some people were lining up. No surprise, huh.
Here’s a pictorial experience of the concert. π

And that was what the concert was like. What? Not feeling it? Okay, fine. Here’s a YouTube video for the less imaginative.
P.S.: Did you catch the blooper at the end of the video? π
The crowd was pretty decent. The main hall was filled while some strayed further to the sides so they could stand on higher ground to catch a glimpse of Zee Avi. The upper deck looked full with everyone sitting on benches you find in a basketball arena.
There was also a VIP area. And Ariel told me she saw Marina Mahathir too. When I turned to look, she was there with her daughter and husband. Then, I also noticed none other than Mr.Tony seated on the sofas.
Security was very well managed by Fat Boyz. Not only were you frisked for any weapons but while leaving, I noticed many DSLR handlers had to claim their batteries back at a table. Good try people.
During the concert, JessicaT was also asked by a security near the stage to handover her camera. However, she flashed the guy her crew tag and was left alone after that. Though there was 1 girl who managed to smuggle her camera in, as she pushed people aside to come center front – where I was standing.
Besides that, the performance was superb. Me and Ariel really love artistes who sound like themselves in real life compared to CDs. To me, that’s true talent and being yourself.
I was so impressed with Zee Avi, I bought her original CD as my support to her. I love her voice, her music and her personality. Definitely looking forward to the next album or when she’s down again.
If you didn’t know, Zee Avi was picked up by the record label; Monotone/Brushfire Records and is now in US. Her next tour stop is Australia.
But if you want to catch this petite artiste before that, she’ll be at a Meet and Greet session at Rock Corner, Gardens on Tuesday, 8pm. Though I think pre-requisite was you need to have her CD.
Oh, I’ve got but 1 dissatisfaction. The big momma standing beside me with her daughter was drowning me with her perfume. It was musky and strong. *blech*
This was my first St Patrick’s Day celebration. The only other time I’ve heard of the event was from friends telling me how they were rolling about crazily in a zorb ball and downing Guinness with others.
And it really seemed St Patrick’s Day was an event you’re most likely to bump into friends and make more friends. Plus, the ladies at the event were hot! Whoever said there weren’t any hot chics who didn’t drink Guinness. π
Some new stage performances I heard was from Damage Hamster and another before Love Me Butch came on. I was still having the flu, so I left before Love Me Butch appeared. But I bet everyone who was still sitting under the drizzle were having an awesome time with their draft.
Okay, enough jibber-jabber. Here are the selected shots of the event. Click for larger version.
At the event, I also met my collegemate Veron. Told you it’s easy to bump into old friends there. π
If it weren’t for the flu, I’d definitely wanted to grab a bite from one of the stores at the food garden. There was just so much to taste. And all I could do was smell ’em. Damn sore throat.
Oh well, I guess it’s better luck next year. So here I end my celebration of St Patrick’s Day at Central Park Avenue, 1Utama with the fireworks video.
p.s.: Shot using my ol iPhone 2G. So don’t expect HD material. π
The last concert I attended was Linkin Park in Kuala Lumpur, Yes, they were here before our smart *sses banned them. The other so-called concert I went for was Bunkface at Yahoo Youreka.
And this year, I started it of with May’N Big Wave (Waaaaave!!) Asia tour in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. I was lucky and fast enough to win a pair of free tickets from Nuffnang.
The concert was held at the KL Life Centre. The same place Bunkface performed and the same place I pay RM9.00 phreaking bucks for parking. Bleh.
Anywho, when I reached the place at 6:00pm a line already had formed! From the top all the way to the ground floor with a turn to the back of the building. I didn’t seriously expect to find this many fans. LOL!
While waiting, we were all asked if we wanted to purchase glow sticks (RM5 each) and the official tour t-shirt (RM48). Then by around 7:05pm, the line started filling up the venue.
The show was only starting at 8:00pm. So what do you do to kill time with a bunch of friends? You form a May’N glow stick signage on the floor.
Some of the photographers in the media box came out for a quick snap too. One of them I know is from the LowYat website. Talk about how fans can really pull the media out of their boxes. π
As the lights dimmed, the crowd cheered on May’N and her dancers. This was definitely where my iPhone can only deliver so much quality in low-lighting.
The performance really rocked the room with huge bass sounds and near deafening pitches. Personally, I felt the music was a little too loud and it drowned out some vocals. But May’N definitely had lots of fun on stage with the Malaysian audience.
She shone like a star – literally. Really loved what the iPhone did on its own for this shot.
And as much as I’d have liked to photograph with my gear, the concert had a strict policy of no photography and video recording. Someone on the floor was caught and pulled out from the crowd for this.
Well, I still find it silly for event organizers to disallow photography. Because at Β nearly every corner, there’ll be someone with a DSLR – even a kid.
I told my friend on the way back, the organizers or management could have a clause not preventing photography but strictly warning against selling of these images or causing damage of the artiste’s image.
Right now, a DSLR is in very high demand and affordable. Couple it with a bunch of social media enthusiasts, you’ll have a long tail of publicity not only of the event but the artiste. Us, (bloggers) get pictures for our posts and keepsake. Win-win.
Oh well, I’m definitely looking forward for more Japanese artistes down here. So, when’s FLO, bump of chicken, Orange Range and others coming down?! I want a media pass! π
At the event, I also found Dustyhawk, Valho (I think) and Fapping Cat.
During Chinese New Year, the weather becomes warmer and the skies become clearer. Not to mention, you become tanner. π
A day to look up
Then, when the family is back for the new year, some like to celebrate it with a bang. So either they have loud fireworks or they invite the lion into their homes.
Where's mah lion?!
And during Chinese New Year, expect to gain weight because the spread is massive. Plus, you’d be having a ‘lou sang’ of a time. π
Western spread
Once you’re full and your tummy is bloated like the God of Happiness, you’d want to rub it a few times for some luck. Because the Chinese will open a table for some friendly gambling. The serious gamblers will go to casinos, so keep away the RM50 notes and bring out the RM0.50 coins.
Gin rummy
And if your luck is down, you’ll want to pull out all the stops to not lose as much as RM10 during the session. And trust me, it’s not that difficult to accumulate a RM10 loss with merely RM0.50. π
Feng shui support
But at the end of the day, it’s really about family. Returning to see your parents and relatives. Tossing the ‘lou sang’ as high as you can to make it come true. Laughing, drinking and eating around the table as one big happy family. π
Family
Happy Chinese New Year everyone! May yours have been a very prosperous one with money, love, family and friends. π
