Movie Review: Clash of The Titans

It was one of my expected movies this year. The trailer for Clash of The Titans was seriously good. Especially when you hear the line, “release the Kraken” every time. The line reminds me of Pirates of the Caribbean and the storyline reminds me of Hercules.

Greek mythodology FTW

Stories of heroes and gods are great to tell. Especially, ones who become gods in the end. I recall Disney’s Hercules was inspiring and at the time, I wasn’t even a kid. But heroics and beliefs aside, its movies like this which become cultural education to us. By now, you’d already remember Zeus, Poseidon and Hades are brothers. In addition, Zeus put Hades in the depths of darkness – hell. So how did this movie fair?

This remake, not so well.

I’ve to say this remake of Clash of The Titans didn’t leave a great mark for me. Simple to say; the trailer looked more promising. The build-up at the beginning was fine. However, character introductions and the ending really sped off quite quickly. It was like one of those experiences where you get the feeling they’re running out of budget so they’ve to end it, like now.

Then again, I still loved their character designs. The Kraken was seriously amazing and I’d choose this Medusa over Percy Jackson and The Lightning Thief, any day. Sorry, Uma.

Would I watch it again?

Maybe, but not in the same week. I’m still thinking what’s missing in this movie. I know it’s suppose to be awesome, but there’s something about it which throws me off.

Well, let me know if you find out. 🙂

A Geek’s Nightmare

Seriously, this morning’s dream was weird. Now thinking if I’ve been spending way too much time at the computer or in my work. Because I had a dream of falling victim to some stupid email scam, accidentally! WTF?!

Stress is distracting

In my dream, I was in the flow of doing my work and it was something I had to rush. Previously, the email marketing company I used did an exercise of requesting members to change their passwords. And, password change verifiers will be sent via email.

Because I was expecting to receive that email, I saw another email which was formatted pretty similar. Not in design but layout. It was a 1-column with text and a text link at the bottom. Now, I think here’s where I made my boo-boo. I didn’t read the text link and assumed it was for me to click and verify my password change.

Nightmare starts

I was suddenly involved in some dispute. My parents contacted me saying there was this person who said I owed them a huge sum of money. Reason being I had subscribed or purchased something from them. Obviously being spaced out, I denied it was true.

Until they asked me if I clicked the link an email. Uh oh!

Thankfully it ended

By the end of my subconsciousness, my parents said it was resolved. Though I vaguely recall in my dream, I told a friend I could sue the other party for having misled and not confirming my purchase first.

Nonetheless, it was quite scary being caught up in such a weird predicament. And do hope it doesn’t come about as a deja vu, ever.

Plus, to make sure I read all my emails before clicking ANY links!

Movie Review: How to train your dragon (not in 3D)

On Sunday, me and Ariel spontaneously decided to book and catch the dragon movie; How to train your dragon. It was quite last minute and weird being able to book the tickets online at Cineleisure about 2 hours before the movie. Though, I’m very much thankful for it. 🙂

Being an animated film, DreamWorks brought the best out of this movie. With much thanks also to the great designers, animators and actors/actresses who lent their voices.

I was seriously impressed by the character designs. They were very detailed down to the tooth and the dragons were very well thought about. It would be really cool to find out what inspired the final designs of the dragon characters. Because I don’t think it’s the actors/actresses.

I did read in the comments of the YouTube video below, a dragon was designed similar to Stitch from Lilo & Stitch because it’s the same director.

It didn’t have a Disney ending

Disney prefers to keep their movies very happily ever after. Well, this movie doesn’t really follow it. Your kids might be a little shocked, but truth be told, it’ll be like a reality lesson. But if you’re not a kid, you’ll seriously enjoy this entertaining movie about dragons.

I know I did. 😛

Would I rewatch the movie?

That’s a yes from me. Though I’m still pondering if I should check out the 3D version of it. So if you do watch it in 3D, please let me know and tell me why you liked it in 3D. 🙂

Movie Review: The Hurt Locker

I’m not a war movie buff, and that goes even for the TV series; Band of Brothers. The last war movie I watched was either about history or strategy. For example; Red Cliff. The Chinese seem to make strategic battles very charismatic as compared to many other Hollywood war movies.

I’d consider The Hurt Locker a documentary drama about the soldiers in the Iraq war. Specifically, the squad which handles bombing inspections and defusing. This story is about their life and how these life-threatening instances change them.

The camera handling was a little shaky but I guess that gave it the documentary feel. Including the inconsistent zooming parts during the movie.

Ladies may not enjoy this movie

Because most of the story was very male oriented. A quick share with a tiny spoiler is, you’ll find them beating themselves up to see who’s tougher.

Now that I think about it, I noticed there weren’t any female characters as soldiers in this movie too. This may have been done on purpose but I wouldn’t know.

End said, now I felt why this movie won Best Film in the Academy Awards and not Avatar. Check out the trailer if you haven’t.

Would I watch it again?

I’m going to pass this. Simply because as I mentioned earlier, I’m not a war movie buff. 🙂
