Russell Peters was in Malaysia

Now, he’s jetting back off to US.

Selamat jalan

My throat still feels coarse after all the heavy laughing last night. I guess they left the other part out in laughter is the best medicine, that someone is gonna get a hurt real bad. *cough*

The Russell Peters Malaysia 2012 Tour

It was an almost family ordeal last night as we went to catch Russell Peters live in Malaysia. I say almost family because my other brother wasn’t able to join us. Nonetheless, we went ahead and got my parents tickets as well to catch the comedian live.

Stadium Melawati, Shah Alam

We got there 1 hour earlier worried parking would be a problem or there’d be a crowd to get into the stadium. When we reached, we quickly grabbed a bite from a burger stall nearby. From waiting and observing them, I knew they were real amateurs compared to the stall owners of Ramly and Otai.

It took them more than twice as long to cook up a burger special – patty wrapped in egg. Then, I noticed the patty’s were thinner than the ones I’d buy from Ramly and Otai. Furthermore, instead of cracking the egg over the hot pan and spreading it, the cook put eggs into a bottle to stir then portioned it into a smaller cup. WTF?

What amateurs, right? I know. *nods* Not wanting to be judgemental, but they should’ve taken off the Ramly apron and not embarrass the trained burger experts where we buy real authentic awesome Malaysian Ramly burgers. Yes, I’m proud of my burger stalls. 😛

East NOT retractable entrance

We passed a few groups selling off self-made Russell Peters merchandise on our way to the entrance. Some of them even used his official logo on them to make it more authentic. Trust us Malaysians to be the next master of pirates I suppose. In my defence, I would’ve bought 1 of it which was a well designed non-plagiarising version promoting the event. But the illustration of Russell Peters threw me off. Ah, how subjective is design.

After walking up the stairs to what we thought was the entrance for East retractable, we learned from the helpful and friendly staff that our entrance was below. So, we walked back down again. Thankfully, as we walked through the correct entrance tunnel, we could feel the cool air conditioned breeze. Phew.

You will be ejected from this event

The ushers were also helpful to direct us to our seats. I suppose this came from practice of last night’s 1st show. The stadium felt cool at first, but it got warmer the moment more seats filled and the show was kicked off.

By the way, it’s the one show I’ve been so far where they had a lot of security and were very strict – not to protect Russell. Their main activity was to blind attendees with their seizure inducing strobing flashlight and laser pointer when attendees tried to photograph anything, even before the event officially started. Some were even flashed when they were taking photos group shots of themselves. I shit you not.

Then before the event, a reminder came on to constantly inform the crowd that recording is prohibited – that’s normal, advising to turn off all electronic devices – normal too, and use of Bluetooth devices or SMS-ing during the event may get you ejected from it – wait, wha?!

Russell Peters is coming...soon

Warming up the event environment, DJ Spinbad spun and scratched some songs for a good 30-60 minutes. Out of the 3 screens at the event, 2 of them gave us the bird’s eye view of how he does what he does. It kept me thinking, “damn, I want me one of those turntables!”

Andrew Netto

The show kicked off with Malaysia comedian; Andrew Netto. It was a good start, though my Dad thought he felt a little nervous. Being a local, he gave us some jokes related to the recent Bersih 3.0 event. Before passing on the act, he wrapped it up by reminding us there were 8,000 people here just in case it was reported the next day; only 3,000 were present. ROFL!

Joey Medina

The 2nd comedian; Joey Medina, took the stage after. He threw a number of sexual related jokes to the crowd and for one moment, I thought us (Malaysians) were really a “brady bunch”. I mean, we laugh really easily. I guess we needed lots of that medicine after having so much traffic stress jammed up our behind nearly everyday.

Then the moment everyone was waiting for arrived. They played his introduction used in last year’s Green Card tour to the music of the series; The Benny Hill show. I always kept thinking Beverly Hill. *facepalm* Here’s the theme song to jog your memory of the comedy series back in the day. If you were born in the 90s, look up YouTube.

Okay, so back to Russell’s introductory video. I really loved the ending touch of it because they toetally included the Malaysia flag onto Russell’s t-shirt. Nice. 😀 (Sorry, if you didn’t get it because you weren’t there.)

Russell really got the crowd laughing hard. He put on his comedic faces and even played with the microphone. Then as Ariel mentioned, if you’re sitting right at the forefront, be prepared to be one of his subjects – not slave, silly. Poor blonde haired lady and her husband got picked on, though I was wondering if they understood his joke. LOL!

Then of course, Russell had to call on his inner power of black people. Thankfully in Malaysia, we’re a multi-ethnic country with plenty to choose from including students from various parts around the world. So, Russell only had to choose how black he needed black.

Oh, and when Russell notices you walking somewhere else midway through the show, expect to be included into the show. Even the 2 cameraman on the stage with him, innocently doing their job were about to be included as part of his show. LOL!

My parents really enjoyed the show and my Dad commended Russell not only as observant but knowledgeable. Damnit! There’s goes my chance of being a comedian – I’m bad in general knowledge you see. 😛

Well, I’m really glad my parents enjoyed it. And this experience gave me some confidence to attend even our own local comedy shows. I mean, we’ve got to attend it at least once, right? That’s what I’m saying. So, what would you recommend?

Bone and Pot Steamboat Kelana Jaya

Bone and Pot Steamboat at Kelana Jaya was a new steamboat place recently opened around the area. Since it’s opening and countless times passing it on my way back, me and Ariel would notice patrons waiting outside the place.

Ariel and her colleagues went there for dinner one night and her report back to me was that it was delish. Therefore, it was time to break my Bone and Pot Steamboat virginity. It was also natural for me to compare it with places I’ve been for steamboat like Tasty Pot and the restaurant nearby my place.

We arrived there after 6pm and waited less than 10 minutes before seating. But I noticed the crowd really coming after 8pm onwards. So, if you plan on eating here, come earlier because there aren’t many tables on the ground floor. Onward to food!

Famous pork broth

Pardon the additional watercress vegetable and some additions because I only took photos after we were a quarter into the food. LOL!

Needle mushrooms wrapped with chicken and slices of beef
Fried bean curd was the bomb!

Ariel told me this was the best Bone and Pot Steamboat dish she had at the time. And I must concur! You could definitely eat this alone with rice for a meal. It’s fried to a crisp leaving a very soft crusty shell and its inside is so soft – almost like tofu. The picture is half the portion that’s left after wallop by me and Ariel. 😛

In comparison to Tasty Pot and the other place, I felt the food here was fresher and more tasty. Only disadvantages to Bone and Pot Steamboat unfortunately is that their variety wouldn’t be as vast and their prices are a little on the high.

Nonetheless, a definite recommendation if you’re gunning for some good steamboat dining. 🙂

Discovering back my undying love for anime

It’s been awhile since I had the leisure of watching my anime series. From secondary school to college, I watched anime titles like Gatekeepers, Hunter X Hunter, Studio Ghibli films, Akira, Ghost in The Shell and other anime titles which have been burned out and stored on the shelf. Some of these anime was even before the time Animax came to Malaysia.

Let me share with you 2 of the anime titles I’ve recently completed watching.

Hidan no Aria (Aria the Scarlet Ammo)

The story revolves around a male high school student, enrolled in a school where students learn the art of becoming professional hitman – ah, how we all dream of such schools. And as usual, you’ve got to have the girl who either wants to kill him, love him or probably both – she’s Aria.

What’s anime today without some sexual angle to it. 😛 Anyway, I felt this anime end the story at a cliffhanger. From what I’ve read online, there is the possibility of a 2nd season – which I hope. Because like some others said, some of the characters didn’t have much of a story to them.

High school DxD

This anime too revolves around the guy. It’s a story told of a war between devils, angels and fallen angels. Personal caution explicitly to this title because it reveals lots of boobs – unless you watch the censored version. Oh, come on. It’s only breasts in 2D. LOL!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qqIPLgUiOgw

It’s an interesting story to follow the development of the guy because he portrays someone who was weak, but because of his will to succeed, he would do anything for the lady he cherishes.

I seriously hope they’d make a 2nd season to this anime. Because again it felt like it left with a cliffhanger. And when I think about it, they wrapped up the ending really quickly. Not sure if it’s because like some have said online, the company producing this title was not allocating enough funds.

Sigh. Though I’ve some anime titles to catch up I feel stories of anime today are pretty boring. It’s more towards drama and some other spin-off which were similar to older anime titles. I miss genres with mecha like Full Metal Panic.

Arbalest

And, do you remembers this anime? Holler if you do.

Oh. oh. Before I forget. You should check out the new Thundercats 2011. It’s one of the pretty good cartoon makeovers I’ve watched to date.

The bitter truth about marriage registration

It is damn tedious-loh. In my defence, it was because we were looking forward to have the officiation at my house. However, here’s what happened in summary.

Rewind few weeks back

Spoke to my friend who’s a wedding planner and she shared with me that the couples would have to observe the registered address in their IC. Because if your address states you’re from Seremban and you’re marrying a person from Selangor, you’ll have to file an application for marriage in BOTH STATES – Seremban and PJ! Just in case someone in your hometown decides to object to your marriage. We’re both from the same region. *phew*

In addition, I also asked my friend about getting the registration done at my house. So she explained I needed to speak to the JPN’s registrar about it. Because some JPN officers don’t perform out-calls. Then, she suggested we try asking JPN Shah Alam. So we did.

However, this was when it started getting messy. The registrar there only does out-calls on Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday. We needed a Friday out of feng shui reasons. So, lady at the counter advised us about JPN Putrajaya as she knows they do Fridays. That let me have some relief.

But after calling up JPN Putrajaya, they only make out-calls within Putrajaya – I stay in PJ. *faint*

This was when after speaking to my Dad, he said we should drop by Thean Hou Gong temple – so we did. The lady over the counter explained their process very quickly and handed me a printed guide of what needed to be prepared. Unfortunately, it still wasn’t very clear to me despite her saying “sumpah sumpah”. Plus, my Mandarin is below basic so I couldn’t converse with her or the other staff.

Timing is everything

Remember I said we wanted to register on Friday for feng shui reasons. Well, we were also looking at the time between 11am and 1pm. This kinda complicated things a little even at Thean Hou Gong temple. Because they follow time slots that are allocated to couples apply in the order. Meaning you couldn’t really choose the time you wanted. Geez!

Fast forward to today

We decided to sort out this registration thing. In the morning, we went to go see a Commissioner of Oaths for a signature and stamp. Seriously, I believe this is the easiest money for lawyers. No need to check anything, just ask the couple to put in name and signatory, then the person signs. Done.

After that, we left for Thean Hou Gong temple. When we reached the parking lot, I forgot to bring copies of my witnesses’ IC. *slaps forehead* Hence, we went back to get it.

After waiting a few minutes as there wasn’t really a queue, we sat down and I took out the JPN form for the lady at the counter thinking we were all good. Until she explained to us that we needed to have JPN stamp the form as well. This was the “JPN verification” process in their printed guide. *stone face* *slaps forehead* So yes, we had to travel to JPN in PJ and get it stamped.

Back to Thean Hou Gong we went – again. This time, it was pouring so poor Ariel was swimming in her flats.

Splish splash splish splash

Thankfully, we now had all documents in order, paid RM80 and got the date we wanted. Just that, I pray we get the time we want and they won’t be stubborn about it.

In conclusion:

  • We went to Commissioner of Oath – paid RM8.
  • We went to Thean Hou Gong temple – 3 times then paid RM80.
  • We went to JPN PJ to get application stamped – paid RM20.
  • Travelling time between destinations back and fourth, approximately 3-4 hours.

Ain’t this the bitter truth. So make sure you’ve all your sh*t together if you’re not doing the officiation at the JPN office.

The fucking awesome Avengers

Updated: May 8, 2012

If you’re blaming yourself for not sticking around for the 2nd credit scene of the movie, don’t be. It was nothing uber hilarious. [incoming spoiler] It’s just the Avengers sitting down eating in a quiet awkward moment.

Yesterday me and my friends decided to reward ourselves with not just an epic movie, but to be seated in GSC Premiere. Big comfy chairs with much leg space around you. With the exception that Ariel’s hot dog order was never delivered to us. 🙁

Avengers assemble!!!

One of the things the movie made me want to do is re-watch some the films again. You’ll need to remember some of the previous stories to follow a bits of the film when they reference back to it. No kidding. One of the things I was wondering is why was Black Widow so afraid of the Hulk. Hmm…

I found the best part of the movie was when the action started. From then on, it’s storyline was bang-bang-bang. I don’t mean it literally but I really liked it when the pace picked up.

Of course there was the things you’ll hear Tony Stark say. However, if you really want a laugh, here’s something to make you cry your eyes out laughing. Thanks to 9gag. 😛

It's complicated

I must say although Hawkeye wasn’t his real self like the comics – costume was purple, the movie fellows got his ability down almost perfectly with the customizable arrows.

And besides Tony Stark, I was really surprised and happy to see Hulk been given a script which made people find his character more attractive. “Puny God, phbt!” 😀

Who the hell is that next villain in The Avengers 2?!

Seriously, after the movie I was busy digging online on who that villain was at the end. Superhero films are really my thing because I grew up with a number of them. So don’t blame me for wanting to find out, urgently. LOL!

And I found my answer! Ladies and gentlemen, meet the villain.

Thanos of Titan

I’d love to be able to tell you more about him but The Avengers wasn’t a comic I followed closely. Nonetheless, I’m looking forward to what maybe new characters could be introduced in the upcoming film.

As far as I can tell, superhero films are ripe for the milking now. 😛
