Cars 2 Movie Review

Cars 2 is the bomb! Though me and Ariel couldn’t get normal tickets for the movie. It was still a great movie to have watched – even in 3D. Personally, I felt there wasn’t enough angles to take advantage of the 3D factor, nevertheless an animated movie was super sharp in 3D. Awesome!

The start of the movie kicked off with awesome spy-like James Bond action and the soundtrack gave that added impact to it – superb. This is one of the best sequels I’ve seen this year.

Without a doubt, this movie’s going to be a keeper – like Cars 1.

God doesn’t want me to will a credit card

I never thought applying for a credit card would be such a pissing off experience. Let me begin my tale from the beginning. I decided to apply for a personal credit card so that I wouldn’t have to boggle my Dad with my spendings and I’d be able to keep Simpleet expenses more organized.

May Bank

My 1st choice was Maybank because of obvious reasons:

  1. I’ve a personal account with them.
  2. Smpleet’s account is with them.

Plus, my Dad and brother also suggested them because they said I should get approval faster since I’ve those accounts with them. But noooo, Maybank had to reject my application with such a reason every time I think about it, makes me feel like moving my account to another bank.

Their reason was: my salary slips were hand-written. -_-!!!!!!!! OMG!!

Seriously, I was so pissed off the moment I knew this. And I’m still pissed off about it.

Chinese Indian Muslim Bank

Moving on, from a bank who doesn’t recognize its own customer, I decided to give CIMB a whirl. My visit to apply at the nearest bank branch was met with too many people and there weren’t enough customer service officers. Hence, I decided to give the online application a try.

Well, I had to remind the CIMB Twitter support a couple of times to follow-up on my application. Other than that, one thing I learned from the experience was their staff emails couldn’t support ZIP files – from external emails, I think.

In the end, even CIMB rejected me because I apparently didn’t fulfill their credit limit. Which is weird because my salary is within their limit. Sigh. So there goes another bank.

City’s Bank

Yet to give up, I applied for Citibank because they had a booth at Curve while I was there with Ariel. The guy who attended to me gave a good vibe and I had a strong feeling Citibank would be my bank of choice very soon. With the Raya holidays at the time, my application was being processed, so I could only wait for good news.

Alas, Citibank also said they wouldn’t be able to accommodate at this time.

Seriously, this is when I’m already thinking to myself, God doesn’t want me to have a credit card.

Only thing now I can do – apply elsewhere

When I was discussing this with my Dad, his theory is that the annual income I declared in the application is different compared to the one in my income tax receipt. Well, it wasn’t very far off, and if this really were the case, I’m going to bring all my hard-copy documents along the next time and get the attendee to fill up the form for me.

Now, I’ve only 2 banks in mind I hope would defy God’s intention – Standard Chartered and Hong Leong Bank. Please don’t give me the lame excuse the tiger gave me.

Partaying Pulp Fiction style

Yesterday night was a double event extravaganza for me. After attending the short session at WebcampKL, me and Ariel headed off to our friend’s birthday party. But since we were there earlier, with partially empty stomachs – gobbled some pizza at WebcampKL, we decided to nom a proper dinner.

As we finished chowing down on the om nom food at Fat Spoon Cafe, they started rearranging furniture in preparation for the partay of the night.

cafe transformationThe shifted tables to the side reminded me and Ariel of the classroom setting we used to do in schools whenever we needed to make space. Once the space was made, staff brought in few rolls of carpets and stacks of pillows. It was becoming like a sleepover. LOL! 😛

party foodOther than the nachos, there was popcorn which was repacked into nice paper cones and arranged on an egg rack – neato! These were just some of the tidbits while we had special condiments as it was a private function. 😛

screening and stickersIt was a night of fun fun fun and more fun. Our friend distributed stickers quoted from the movie, set the environment with large posters from Pulp Fiction including a private screening whilst everyone was mingling. And you guessed it, some of our other friends came dressed for the occasion – Pulp Fiction stylo. 🙂

I guess as you mature, musical chairs are a thing of the past, replaced with more sophistication and grown up fun. ROFL!

It was a great night and do share what was your recent themed party.

Sprained thumb

So there I was, rebounding the basketball from under the basket which my teammate fired but hit the rim. Launching myself into the air while my opponent boxed me out, I reached for the ball and tapped it back out. With my teammate passing the leather ball back to me, swiftly avoiding opponents while dribbling, I took the shot and scored.

With the game restarted, I wasn’t so lucky this round. Once the rebound was out of my hands, the loose ball on the group bounced to the tip of my thumb and straight away I felt the sharp pain – thank goodness it wasn’t broken.

swollen thumb
Left me pretty swollen

With this injury, I can’t put strain on my thumb and the muscles nearby. Whenever I do, it shoots a tingling and later painful feeling. And with it, I’ve found certain tasks difficult to complete:

  1. Squeezing my sports bottle to drink water.
  2. Carrying a cup firmly by the handle.
  3. Carrying an overweight plate.
  4. Switching on my shaver in the morning.
  5. Holding my tooth brush firmly.
  6. Washing my ears and back thoroughly.
  7. Turning the tight doorknobs.
  8. Stretching elastic apparel.

Basically, any strenuous activity which involves using my thumb muscles is out of the question right now. However, luckily I still can type on the keyboard and give a thumbs up. 😛

Just hope this swelling goes away by the weekend. Not sure how I’ll fair holding the golf club later.

10 years of Hari Raya Video Advertisements

Dedicated to all my Muslim friends. It’s the season where your tolerance is paid off with the smiles of your family members and friends in the reunions. May you have a joyous celebration and make sure to return with all 5 fingers if you’re going to be exploding those cannons in your kampungs. 🙂

Just noticed how this commercial didn’t really have a happy ending. Maybe it’s just part 1 of the story – I guess.

Balik kampung. Oh ho ho ho…balik kampung.

2010 Hari raya Maxis Commercial

[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n_Dw9C2qkBQ]

The story of a widow who returns to her husband’s family to celebrate Hari Raya in remembrance of his love and support. It’s one of the sadder tales to bring out the meaning of Hari Raya.

2011 Hari Raya F&N Music Video come Commercial

[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FCs4hxF6cOU]

Okay. Seriously, I would’ve never thought of F&N to come up with this. And I hope they continue on this path because music is always in the heart of Malaysians. The song has a Western style but its contents and lyrics are all in Bahasa Malaysia. Kudos F&N.

You may have noticed 2004 is missing. I was looking for a 2004 commercial but couldn’t spot any. In replacement of it, here’s a commercial from 1999.

1999 Hari Raya Petronas COMMERCIAL

[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5uPdW035wrQ]

One Youtube user who published a similar video said that the moral of this advertisement was the essence of it – I totally agree. And it’s sad thinking how children now are not being raised to understand the real prices of life.

Most of the video commercials are from Petronas because it was difficult finding other Malaysian companies who took the effort to upload their commercials. In addition, Petronas has been consistently churning out really great festival commercials.

Hope you enjoyed the blast from the past. Maaf zahir dan batin – Forgive my physical and emotional (wrongdoings).
