Say hello to our little friend

The Fujifilm Instax Mini 25.

It’s a Polaroid camera me and Ariel decided to buy for ourselves. We started our hunt in the LowYat forums because that’s where you get some bargains for technology related products. After some enquiring, we got to know one of the sellers was going to be around town. Unfortunately, he couldn’t make it back to where we wanted to COD (Cash on Delivery).

So while at Amcorp Mall, we walked into the camera shop nearby Starbucks since I knew they’d definitely carry this camera. After asking the price, it was near what we were about to pay the LowYat seller. So after haggling another RM5, we just bought it from the shop. Malaysian mar. :p

Okay. So seriously, biggest investment isn’t the camera itself. It’s got to be the film and the particular batteries. A box of plain polaroid film costs RM25 per box – according to Ariel, works out to about RM2.50 per photo. Then, CR2 batteries costs RM25 per battery, and this camera uses 2 of it! O.O Die!

Despite the investment, I guess this was to be expected and we’re still very happy with the camera. Only thing now is to make sure we’ve to make all shots count. Lol!

The Doubletree by Hilton affair

Me and Ariel attended the wedding planning party organized by Doubletree Hilton Kuala Lumpur. Purpose of me visiting is to learn where I can, at the same time meet up with my friend who I thought would be there. Unfortunately, she had an emergency.

Like a wedding but not a wedding

Nonetheless, I happened to bump into my friend’s sister with her parents and even a Webcamper! Lol. So small is the world we live in. 🙂

The first part of the party was kicked off with a fashion show by wedding couture designers – Carven Ong and Eric Choong.

And emceeing the event was William who’s a radio host, from which station I do not know.

Emcee William - Can't touch this?

By the end of Carven’s show, me and Ariel were pretty hungry since we didn’t really have breakfast and not grab a light snack before heading over. I was hungers till my tummy started growling.

Never be misled by tasting portions

When the show continued, we listened to both master photographers; Jim Liaw and Zung talk about their work and what couples should be doing when wanting to engage a photographer. There was a real difference in presentation and style from the works of both photographers.

Beyond the memories is the ka-ching machine

But we’ve already found our master photographer – you’ll know soon enough.

Nearing the end of the event, I was looking out for people from Wishing Tree because I wanted to touch base with them on decoration ideas we had. At the same time, have a better idea of the budget we should be allocating. It so happened we bumped into them when I was just thinking about it – the universe is amazing. 😉

We didn’t stay until the end but congratulations to the couple who walked away with the Conrad Bangkok package. And thanks to Doubletree for inviting us.

P.S.: Only had my trusty iPhone 3GS with me and I still miss you, Steve. 🙁

The world will miss you Steve

Woke up to the morning feeling everything is as it is. Util I saw CNN doing a segment on Apple. Curiously watching on, my Dad injected the news which gave me a shock – Steve Jobs passed away. What?!

So my Dad added, Steve was battling pancreatic cancer. And in my mind I was thinking, didn’t he resign not too long ago. Man, Steve knew it was coming and he exited at the right time. Weirdly but true, people who know they are going and make the necessary preparations like this amaze me. It’s like their foresight is looking into the future.

Sigh. I’m really going to miss Steve’s presentation and presence. He inspired me and continues to inspire me as a presenter. I’m going to miss you Steve. The world, is going to miss you.

RIP Steve Paul Jobs

Rest in peace.

Me – Captured on video

Never before have I stepped in front of the camera. And stayed there. Normally, I’d be the person behind my ol Canon 400D snapping away. But I suppose there’s always a first for everything – go-kart for instance.

Okay. I may not have conquered my fear of heights, but I still consider this a big step for myself this year. With the support from my friends, I’d like to kickoff an initiative to talk about the gaming scene. Personally, I’m more comfortable with the First-Person Shooter (FPS) environment but again, there’s a first for everything. Thus, allow me to introduce you, Gamescoop.

I know right. “What’s with the hands?” OMGROFL! Well, I guess that’s what happens when you actually watch yourself for the first time.

And if you’re a seasoned host or a natural, please do share some pointers with me. I’d love to upgrade my presentation skills +10 Level higher. 🙂

Thanks for watching!

Garrett Popcorn finally in Malaysia

Om my gawd! It’s kam-bing. It’s kam-bing I tell ya!

If you know who took this picture, let me know.

So what the fuss about – it’s just popcorn right? Wrong. Believe me, that’s what I thought as well until I just ate 1 of it and by gosh, it’s a popcorn like no other you’ve tasted in Malaysia – nearest place which has this is Singapore. And like my friend said, once you’ve had the Garrett Popcorn, you’ll hesitate ordering cinema popcorn – ever!

It’s hard to describe the popcorn but here are some visually different facts of the Garrett caramel popcorn:

  1. It’s rounder.
  2. Caramelized all round – evenly.
  3. It’s bigger than your normal popcorn.
  4. It’s golden browned all over – well-covered with caramel.

Okay. It really sounds good. But hold your horses.

In Singapore, their Caramel Crisp sells from SGD8 for a small bag. And that bag is smaller than your McDonald’s paper bag. Converted to Malaysian Ringgit, be prepared to pay about RM16-20 per small bag.

But the question on my mind now is, will local cinemas like TGV or GSC or MBG, allow us to bring this into their cinemas?

Or, will one of our local cinemas raise the bar and allow Garrett Popcorn to set up a small kiosk at their concession area for patrons who are willing to spend for this premium oh-so-nommy popcorn?

It’s going to be interesting to see how this plays out. So watch your social media timelines when Garrett Popcorn officially opens! 😀
